Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty

Slow morning, Matilda & a great dinner with even better company

hi lovely,

The sun peeked in early this morning, and the city was already buzzing — people headed to work, cafés opening, and that steady hum of London life just getting started. I woke slowly, savoring the soft light and a little stillness before the day began. The kids slept in, still adjusting to the time change. That worked well for me, so I could write this for you lovely people. The only plans we have today is the afternoon showing of Matilda. I have heard amazing things about it. We will be doing a lot of walking today, so todays outfit needs to be easy to move in for sure. I also just checked the weather and it is going to to be a little chilly. A high of 68 degrees. The bad part (but low key good) is I only brought one pair of pants on this trip! There may be a little shopping in the mix. I’m feeling Zara.

The kids and I took a short walk to Starbucks, our little comfort stop when we’re away from home. There’s something about that first warm sip in a new city that makes everything feel familiar and fresh all at once.

After breakfast, we wandered through the neighborhood, letting the morning set the pace. I tucked my journal in my bag and took a moment — just long enough to notice the slight chill in the air, the light on the sidewalks, the hum of a city that’s somehow both old and new all at once.

Wearing my new Zara black mid-rise jeans — an easy yes the moment I tried them on — with a simple J.Crew built-in bra tank that I now need in every color. My layered Melinda Maria jewelry (I’m never without it), and Lilly Pulitzer sneakers keep the whole look relaxed but polished.

If there’s one thing London does effortlessly, it’s theatre — and Matilda was everything I hoped it would be. Bright, funny, wildly clever, and just emotional enough to catch you off guard.

We spent the afternoon at The Cambridge Theatre, tucked into the vibrant Seven Dials area. It's one of those places that feels both grand and intimate — velvet seats, soaring music, and not a bad view in the house. From the moment the curtain rose, my girl was glued. You could see it in her face — the wonder, the magic, the quiet way she took it all in like she was memorizing every moment.

As a mom, there are these tiny flashes where you see your child a little more clearly — who they’re becoming, what lights them up. Watching my girl watch Matilda was one of those moments. She laughed (the Miss Trunchbull scenes were a hit), leaned in during “Quiet,” and clapped hard enough to make up for B, who was mostly focused on the snacks.

The cast was brilliant. The kids were wildly talented. The energy was electric. And I walked out reminded of how powerful stories can be — especially when they’re told with music and a little magic.

If you're ever in London with littles (or just want to feel like one again), Matilda is a must.

Spent the afternoon at the Cambridge Theatre watching Matilda — 10/10 would definitely recommend for laughs, magic, and a few happy tears!

Before dinner, my girl and I slipped away for whats becoming a little tradition of ours — a quick stop at her favorite spot: Boba. She always knows exactly what she wants: a strawberry fruit tea with peach boba, and honestly, I’ve grown to love it just as much.

We walked back from Boba, sunshine softening into evening, and met up with the Mr. and B at a local pub that’s wildly popular here, The George. It was one of those days that unfolded just right — magic, memories, and a little something sweet in the middle.

A little post-theatre treat with my girl 🍓✨ Strawberry fruit tea with peach boba — always her favorite, and now mine too. Found our spot in Chinatown, just a short walk from the magic at Cambridge Theatre.

The George, is a cozy, elevated pub spot that hit all the right notes. I had the flank steak (well done - the other option was rare) with a side of creamed spinach that felt like the comfort food of my dreams. The kids went for chicken sandwiches & fries and shared some Irish soda bread, and The Mr. went classic with steak and frites — always a favorite.

We were joined by friends, which made the whole night feel even more special. The food was genuinely good — but as always, the company was better. It was the kind of dinner you don’t rush, the kind that lingers with you a little into the next morning.

✨ Missy’s Notes

A few personal favorites from the day — where we went, what we loved, and little details to remember (and share).

🎭 Matilda the Musical

  • Where: Cambridge Theatre, Seven Dials, London

  • Why we loved it: The music, the energy, the storytelling — pure magic. The kids were completely captivated, and honestly, so was I.

  • Tip: Book ahead if you can — the theatre is intimate and every seat feels close to the stage. Make time to walk around Covent Garden before or after.

🍴 Dinner at The George

  • Where: 55 Great Portland Street, London, W1W 7LQ

  • What we ordered:

    • Me: Flank steak with creamed spinach

    • The Mr.: Steak frites

    • Kids: Chicken sandwich and Irish soda bread

  • Vibe: Cozy but elevated. Warm wood interiors, low lighting, and a grown-up menu that still feels inviting.

  • Would I return? Absolutely. The food was lovely — but more than that, it felt like a place made for lingering with friends.

🛍️ Where I Shopped

  • Zara – Popped in for a quick browse and walked out with the perfect pair of black mid-rise jeans. Sleek, versatile, and instantly in rotation. Might go back — because when Zara hits, it hits.
